Internship
Mechanical engineering internship
Contribute to mechanical design, simulation and robotic cell integration.
Boucherville, Québec
THE INTERNSHIP
Want to see your ideas become working industrial equipment? At PPD Automation, you can help design and integrate the mechanical elements of automation and robotics solutions. You work with the technical team to connect design, assembly and testing.
POSSIBLE ASSIGNMENTS
• Help create 3D models and fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Assist with the design of supports, frames, guides, fixtures and adapter parts.
• Contribute to robotic gripper and tooling design for the products being handled.
• Participate in layout studies covering space, access, clearances and equipment interfaces.
• Contribute to robotic cell simulations to study reach, trajectories, motion and potential interference.
• Help estimate cycle times and compare alternative layouts or operating sequences.
• Help validate concepts virtually before fabrication and compare findings with physical testing when the assignment allows.
• Help select mechanical and pneumatic components and prepare bills of materials.
• Check dimensions, fits and technical information with the team and suppliers.
• Support shop assembly, observe testing and propose documented adjustments.
• Update drawings and documentation following changes.
YOUR PROFILE
• Currently studying mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Basic mechanical design, drawing interpretation and 3D modelling skills.
• Interest in mechanisms, robotics and production equipment.
• Attention to detail, practical thinking, curiosity and clear communication.
• Teamwork and willingness to check your ideas against real equipment.
• Ability to document your work and consider fabrication and assembly constraints.
ASSETS
School or personal projects involving design, fabrication, robotics, pneumatics, prototyping or simulation. An interest in kinematics, motion analysis or robotic simulation tools is also an asset. CAD software and technical drawing experience are useful. Tell us which tools you know and your contribution to previous projects.
WHAT YOU COULD DEVELOP
A practical understanding of the path from 3D model to fabricated part and working equipment. Develop design, verification and problem-solving habits while considering electrical integration and programming. Tasks and complexity are adapted to your level, progress and available projects.
ARRANGEMENTS
Based in Boucherville, Québec. We will discuss the term, duration, internship level and your school’s requirements. The assignment and possible client-site activities depend on the projects.
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV with your program, study level, preferred term and duration. Briefly describe a design or fabrication project and the software you used. You may include a portfolio containing no confidential documents.
